On Sunday 21st April, members of LBC took to the canal waters of Leicester for the first sprint regatta of the season. With the annual meal the evening before, this was a chance to blow away the racing cobwebs for some and cure the hangover for others.
Leicester is notorious for its straight and narrow course, with the noise of cheering crowds on the bank sometimes accompanied by the sound of blades scraping along the concrete at the edge of the canal.
LBC demonstrated their ability to row in a straight line, not as easy as it sounds as we are far more used to rowing around bends, and put up some great performances, including:
- Wins for the Women’s quad and Women’s coxed four
- Matt and Natalie getting through to the final in Matt’s first regatta
- Our junior single just missing out on the final after a very close race
- Great rows from a number of other singles and doubles, including crews racing together for the first time
Congratulations to Hazel and Flo for their first wins. Now what’s that rowing tradition when people get their first regatta win Ladies?
