Soar Head 2019

Notice from Organising Committee

Update

The Head of the Soar 2019 has been cancelled

The Organising Committee have discussed further and have agreed that it is necessary to cancel the Head. Having considered: a range of weather reports for the next week; the conditions of the Trent, to which the Soar is a tributary, and the Derwent, also a tributary to the Trent; an updated prediction for the river levels from the Environment Agency; a course walk and waterlogged trailer and competitor carpark, there are unfortunately no outcomes in which Loughborough Boat Club could hold a safe, enjoyable or successful Head on 16 November.

All at Loughborough Boat Club thank you for your entries and support for what was looking like being a great day’s racing. It is unfortunate that we will not get to welcome you on 16 November as regular, returning or new Clubs. Thank you also for your understanding and we hope to welcome many of you on 28 March 2020 if we are given the go ahead to reschedule the Soar Head. For crews that have already paid via BROE2 a full refund will be given.

Warm Regards
The Organising Committee

The race committee has met this morning (09 Nov 2019, 1000) with a view of the current and predicted river conditions. As you aware there are some severe floods in the region, whilst we are currently not affected to the same extent, the water level is significantly high and we will be monitoring this closely to make the correct decision on running the Head. The forecast weather is showing minimal rain but this cannot be guaranteed.
The OC has considered that if conditions remain as they are, our competitors will not have the enjoyable experience as they have come to expect from Loughborough Boat Club, the field conditions for trailers would be trying and parking for competitors and spectators would be unfairly limited.
We are currently exploring the feasibility of contingency plans to allow the running of the Head although there is a significant chance of having to cancel as the race would not run safely or successfully.

A firm notice will be made by Tuesday 12 November.

Should we unfortunately have to cancel, we have started the process to rearrange the Head for Saturday 28 March 2020.

Loughborough Boat Club’s annual head race is held in mid November each year when competitors across the region, and further, come to take on the unique bends of the Soar over a 3km course. This year’s Head will be held on Saturday 16th November across the usual three divisions with start times: 0930, 1145, 1400.

Events run across each of the divisions giving you the choice to race at a time that suits and to freely double (or even treble) up! New for 2019, winners of events will be awarded with a medal which has been designed by LBC ourselves.

You can view Previous years’ results to set yourself a target time/pace.

All visitors to LBC are encouraged to read the applicable documentation in the documents section below as they become active. Competitors are reminded to pay particular attention to the Competitor notes and Marshalling Instructions. Spectators and supporters, you have your own information about the day.
