Unlike most rowing races that are either short sprints or time-trial style ‘head races’ of up to 7km, the annual Great Ouse Marathon is a real endurance test at 21.5k of racing through the fens from West Norfolk Rowing club to the Isle of Ely rowing club. For many, the hardest part is the 1.5k row back to the boat club after the race has finished and the limbs have started to seize up!
LBC sent six intrepid crews: Mx MasB 2x, two Op J18 1x, Op Mas F 4-, W 2- and a W 2x. Some crews were new to the event, but others had rowed it before and really should have known better!
The day was warm and the wind mercifully light, with all LBC crews putting in great performances and finishing the event in a good time.
Special shout out to our Op J18 1x who came first in his category, and to the Open Mas F 4- who set a new course record for their age category and boat class. As always, a huge thanks to the trailer drivers and support crews, a cry of ‘come on Loughborough’ from a bridge means a lots when you’re 16k in to a race!
