SQUADS
Rowing at LBC is split by age group, as are competitions, though you will often find us rowing together.
You can start rowing from 12 years old, though it’s never too late to start.
SENIORS

If you are between the ages of 18 and 27 you would be in our Senior squad.
Whether you have rowed before, or are brand new to the activity, we will help you get out on the water and enjoy rowing.
Our Senior squad often takes part in rowing competitions in single and crew boats and train both on and off the water.
Some of our senior rowers have left University, moved to the area and want to carry on their rowing journey, we also have a strong cohort from the local vet’s school.
MASTERS

Rowing is a great sport to carry on into our later years as it is low impact and can be as little or as much exercise as you want to make it.
Masters rowing is split into age categories, With ‘Masters A’ being 27-36 going all the way up to ‘Masters M’ at 89+
At LBC we have master rowers from their late twenties into their seventies, some are happy to just row for recreation and general fitness, while others actively train to compete at head races and regattas.
Some of our masters have previously rowed at their schools or universities and wanted to return to the sport after a long break, while others have started in their fifties after never rowing before.
JUNIORS
Pathway into rowing
For juniors in year 6, our program focuses on learning the basics of rowing in a fun, inclusive way. Through a mix of indoor and outdoor games, they build skills while enjoying themselves with friends. We also work on developing their mobility and strength to lay the foundation for great technique. During the colder winter months, most of our pathway training takes place indoors, keeping everyone warm and safe from the risks of capsizing—so they can keep improving and having fun all year round.
J12 – J15
Our junior rowers in year 7 to 9, train 2 to 3 times a week, balancing their sessions with other sports and school commitments. Training happens both on the water and indoors, giving them a great mix of skills and experiences. Racing is always encouraged—it’s a fantastic way to challenge themselves and be part of the team spirit—but there’s no pressure. Whether they’re aiming to compete or just enjoy the sport, there’s a place for everyone.
J16 – J18
