SQUADS
Rowing at LBC is split by age group, as are competitions, though you will often find us rowing together.
You can start rowing from 12 years old, though it’s never too late to start.
JUNIORS
From the age of 12 to 18, you would be in our Junior Squad. This applies up to the December 31st of the year you reach 18.
We provide on-the-water coaching, land-based training and all the equipment you need to learn to row.
Juniors start off sculling (having a blade in each hand) and we have easy-to-balance boats, as well as boats we can fit floats to (kind of like adding stabilizers to a bike). Before long you will be rowing in single and crew boats with other rowers such as a double or a quad.
Our junior squad also takes part in rowing competitions, although that’s entirely optional.
Rowing can be an ideal skill or sport to take up as part of the Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme.
SENIORS
If you are between the ages of 18 and 27 you would be in our Senior squad.
Whether you have rowed before, or are brand new to the activity, we will help you get out on the water and enjoy rowing.
Our Senior squad often takes part in rowing competitions in single and crew boats and train both on and off the water.
Some of our senior rowers have left University, moved to the area and want to carry on their rowing journey, we also have a strong cohort from the local vet’s school.
MASTERS
Rowing is a great sport to carry on into our later years as it is low impact and can be as little or as much exercise as you want to make it.
Masters rowing is split into age categories, With ‘Masters A’ being 27-36 going all the way up to ‘Masters M’ at 89+
At LBC we have master rowers from their late twenties into their seventies, some are happy to just row for recreation and general fitness, while others actively train to compete at head races and regattas.
Some of our masters have previously rowed at their schools or universities and wanted to return to the sport after a long break, while others have started in their fifties after never rowing before.
