Peterborough Regatta gives LBC the chance to race in a straight line, as it is held on a one kilometre long rowing lake. As we are more used to navigating the twists and turns of our own bendy river, staying in a straight line can prove challenging for some LBC steerers. Luckily this year all LBC crews managed to finish in the same lane they started in!
As there are not many multi-lane competitions in the UK, Peterborough tends to attract quite strong opposition from around the UK, so is a good test of how a crew is performing.
It was great to see multiple LBC crews stepping up to race, with 16 crews taking part in total, including a few of our Juniors in their first race.
With two 3rd place, three 2nd, and one 1st place finish LBC held their own, with a number of crews making their way through the heats.

And for an added piece of animal-based entertainment, the head that could be seen bobbing up and down in the rowing lake was not a capsized rower, but a seal that had decided to swim up the river and make its home in the lake waters to feast on all the captive fish, surely a ‘seal of approval’ for all the great performances from LBC!
