Bewdley Regatta was held on 23rd and 24th of July 2011, racing downstream on the River Severn.  Loughborough rowers displayed fine form throughout the weekend’s events both in junior and adult categories.  The most notable performances however came from the masters eight crew. Their powerful synchronicity proved too much for opponents Stourport who were beaten by a clear length.  This placed Loughborough in the final against the host crew Bewdley.  A further impressive display of rowing secured the win for the masters eight under the expert guidance of cox Oisin McNally-Reilly.  Those performances proved to be inspirational for fellow Loughborough rowers.  An example being the mixed intermediate three eight, who despite being a somewhat unpracticed crew came together and maximised on a powerful and skilful start which kept competitors from Trent at bay over the 800m course.  This same tactic was utilized in the final which culminated in another convincing win against Trafford.  The consistent performances in the eights over both days were a fitting tribute to the memory of Roger Burdell, whom the boat the ‘Jolly Roger’ was named after.

The second day of racing brought with it more wins produced by Tom Scholefield aged 17 in his single scull.  Tom’s dedication and commitment to the sport is exceptional making him an outstanding competitor whether racing at junior or adult levels.  The weekend was further complimented by a fly past by the legendary red arrows display team, along with the impressive thirty eight pots that returned to the Loughborough boat house.
