It was the first time Loughborough Boat Club had been to Lincoln Rowing Centre to compete at their Head Race, which consisted of time trials over 3000m on the River Witham. The course is a deep sided roman improved channel and therefore straight with two slight bends and to the untrained eye quite featureless but very good to row on. The first division was breezy with the race against the stream and the headwind making the 3000m feel even longer than it already was.

Loughborough entered 6 crews, Master’s Eight, IM3 Eight, IM2 Double, IM2 Women’s Quad, Novice Double and Women’s IM3 Double. The Master’s Eight was up against Ancombe Rowing Club and Doncaster Rowing Club and beat them by over a minute taking home engraved Brandy glasses for the winning crew. The Men’s IM2 double consisting of the duo Tom Scholefield and Jonny Day won convincingly in 13 minutes 45 seconds also gaining title of the fastest double of the day along with the coveted glassware. A great day was had by all and a new head race added to the Loughborough Race calendar. The two Loughborough men’s Eights will be racing at the Thames Tideway Head of the River Race on the 2 April 2011, seven crews will race at Bedford Small Boats Head on the 10th April and then the first regatta of the season for Loughborough, Leicester Regatta on the 17th April.
