Burton Head is one of the first Head races of the season and was held over 3500 metres on the River Trent. For once, the Trent was behaving itself and had a steady flow with a stiff tail wind for the racing.

Competing in the first division were the Elite composite quad of Rob Parks and Tom Scholefield rowing together with Trent Boat Club. As the first crew off the start, they were also the first crew to finish with the fastest time of the day of 10 mins and 41 seconds. Racing for time only, sadly no medals were forthcoming for their event. Representing the more mature members of the club were Scott Ferris and Mike Targett in their men’s masters double and Charlie Henry and Captain of the club, Keith Hudson, in their Master’s pair. Despite a tremendous effort from Scott and Mike, victory was not to be, however Charlie and Keith took home the medal for their division in a time of 13 mins and 38 seconds by a huge fifty-two second victory – a very satisfying win over their younger competition. Also representing the club were Katie Ferris and Becky Mills in their W.IM3 double and Cathy and Annie Beaumont, Erica Gummery and Lizzie Hill in their W.IM2 quad.

The ladies Masters D crew of Vicky Haines, Emma Heygate, Jen Smith and Emily Quinton, coxed by Tim Ives raced as a W.IM3 coxed four for competition, didn’t race until the afternoon, but were sadly beaten by a much younger De Montfort University Crew. A great effort was put in by all those who competed. A big thank you to all the supporters who braved the chill wind and assisted the crews throughout the day. A special thanks to Tilda for looking after Oakley!
