This year’s entry at Boston was much smaller than usual, and typically the weather was a bright and sunny 7 degrees, much warmer than usual when we send a larger contingency.

With two divisions of racing, all Loughborough crews were delighted to be racing the 3km course, with the longer 5km being reserved for the larger eights and crews with higher point status.

First off in the first division after an hour long wait at the top were Scott Ferris and Mike Targett in their Masters C double who put in a brave effort covering the course in 14 mins and 32 seconds. Also competing were Bethan Henry, Lottie Gardner, Katie Ferris and Alex Abrahams in their WJ18 coxless quad who managed to finish in a time of 14 mins and 15 seconds against very strong competition. Brothers, Oisin and Cathal McNally-Reilly, rowing as a J17 2x managed a great second place in their group with a time of 13mins and 19 seconds losing out to Burton Leander. The last rower in division one was Hannah Ferris, who at only 13 bravely took on the 3km in a single at WJ14. Coming second in 15 mins and 39 seconds, Hannah put in a tremendous effort that she should be very proud of.

Division two saw a couple of our new juniors in their very first race, Henry To and Sam Baxter who were competing with Oisin and Cathal in a J18 coxless quad. They managed to complete the course in 12 mins and 7 seconds – a very impressive time for beginners, and we look forward to seeing how they fare in the regatta season with the rest of our new juniors.

A big thanks to Mike and Jen for taking the boats and the half an hour they spent managing to extricate the trailer from the mud at the club to get the boats to the race on time.
