Triumph yet again for LBC at Boston Head, the first head race of the New Year. Five kilometres of straight water on the River Witham in Lincolnshire for the ladies eight, and three kilometres for all the smaller crews and juniors.

Following days of rain and cloud, the sun actually made the odd appearance on the race day, belying the low temperatures, but allowing a much more settled race without the strong head winds that we usually associate with Boston.

Beth Henry and Lucy Agar achieved success, beating their rivals from Doncaster Schools by 4 seconds to win the glass goblet in their double for the WJ18 2x with a time of 12mins 38secs. Zoe Hudson and Erica Gummery also won their category of W.IM1 2- by beating Trentham Boat Club by 7 seconds finishing in 12mins 24secs. Congratulations to brothers Sam and James Remer who won the J14 2x in 12mins 53secs beating their opposition of Boston Rowing Club by 15 seconds with Sam’s first win in his first ever Head race.

Emily Senior and Matilda Haines came third in a large WJ15 2x category with nine other crews, only missing the cup by 12seconds. A great effort by Juniors Isabelle Senior and Hannah Ferris who rowing up a year also managed third place in the WJ14 2x out of six crews.

Congratulations to Karen Senior for surviving her first ever race, participating in the W.MasC 8+, and a great row by all the ladies. Well done to all the other LBC participants who braved the cold and Lincolnshire roads to race, especially the men’s Elite coxless quad who achieved the third fastest time of the day for the 3km race in 10mins and 7seconds.
