Taking on the challenge of visiting a different racing location than usual, Loughborough Boat Club took on the East Anglian rowing clubs at the Bedford Spring Fours and Small Boats Head on the 2000 metre course on the River Great Ouse. Despite it being one of the windiest days of the year, all the crews made a fantastic effort battling it out against some very strong opposition and head winds.
Representing the club and coming in second place in their divisions were Andrea Bundon and Dave McCaughan in their IM1 double finishing 27 seconds behind Poplar and Medway, and Shane Frear in his composite IM3 double with Devil’s Elbow finishing 38 seconds behind Leicester. The two Loughborough Women’s IM2 doubles also did well with Andrea Bundon and Libbi Gray who managed third place with Annie and Cathy Beaumont coming fourth by a mere four seconds after them. Also in third place were our junior crew of girls racing as a coxed novice four. Bethan Henry, Lucy Agar, Alex Abrahams and Katie Ferris, coxed by Hannah Ferris had a tremendous row to finish only 19 seconds behind the winners from St Neots and second place Cantabrigians. Fellow third place rower was Tom Scholefield who came in at only 22 seconds behind the winner. Also competing were Emma and Jerry Heygate in their Masters D pair, Ruariadh Little in his novice single and Mike Targett in his Masters C single.
