Saturday brought the sunshine and a couple of wins for our younger club members at Burton Regatta, a 1100m course downstream on the Trent. With just a handful of crews racing on this, the longer of the two days, it was fabulous to see our juniors being successful.  First to win was Alex Henry and Hannah Ferris rowing in their J14 double, with Hannah having to compete as a boy as no mixed crews are offered at this age group. With one heat, a semi-final and final to get through on a long regatta course, there was much work to be done. The double had been drawn against Queens Park High School in the first heat with a win for our dynamic duo by one and a half lengths. The semi-final, also against Queens Park High School was won by two and a half lengths for Alex and Hannah to meet yet another QPHS crew in the final. Here they battled it out and won the cup by another two and a half lengths.

The second win of the day was in a straight final between two ladies’ Loughborough Crews with Alex Abrahams and Emily Senior in one W.IM2 double racing siblings Annie and Cathy Beaumont in the other double. After some very interesting steering from both crews, Alex and Emily finally took the cup winning by just one length.

Sunday brought a little more mixed weather with brollies definitely on the agenda and a shorter sprint over 700 metres. It also brought a few more wins for the Juniors plus Vicky and former Junior, Lucy. First to pick up a prize was Alex Henry on his second successful day beating Boston in the final by a three lengths in his J14 single. Closely followed by Hannah Ferris and Isabelle Senior battling it out through two rounds to take the pots for the WJ14 double first beating Newark easily in the semi’s and then Boston by a length in the final.

The final crew to pick up a prize was the W.IM3 4+ which was comprised of Bethan Henry, Lucy Agar, Emily Senior and Vicky Haines and coxed by Hannah Ferris. In a very close and heavily battled out final with Trent, our ladies took the pot by just three-quarters of a length, resulting in Bethan and Lucy losing their sweep oar novice status.
