Two of Loughborough’s most promising junior rowers took the infamous glass tankards home with them from their own prestigious regatta held recently at Holme Pierre Pont national water sports centre. Jonny Day (18) and Tom Scholefield’s  (16) race was a straight final in the Junior 18 race against Birmingham Rowing Club.

Conditions were warm and sunny, but a strong breeze on the course made things a little tricky. However, despite the breeze, they powered through the competition to beat them by four boat lengths in a time of 3:27 with Birmingham trailing behind with a time of 3.46. The boys last won at Leicester Regatta and narrowly missed out on a win at Ironbridge Regatta, they will be competing next at Burton Regatta in a few weeks.

Tom also entered the Junior 16 single race over 1000m, Birmingham’s sculler Khan and Loughborough’s Scholefield were neck and neck to the 750m mark, Scholefield then found extra strength from within to push through and win in 3:59 with Khan closely following in 4.03. A tough race to win as there is a lot of competition at this level.
