Only one crew braved entering Peterborough Regatta on the Saturday, which was Emily and Matilda in a composite with Lincoln. Racing in a WJ14 2x+, with only a few outings together before hand, the girls braved the wind and June chill coming second in their first heat, being beaten by Newark RC but taking the edge over Stratford Upon Avon BC. Having made it to the finals, sadly the girls could not quite make it past Newark finishing in second place overall in 4mins and 28secs, only 5 seconds behind.
Sunday had a slightly larger, albeit still rather small, contingency of rowers, however with the sun finally making a welcome appearance it proved to be a very pleasant day out for all with plenty of chilling post race.
The ladies Novice 8, rowing beautifully together, sadly didn’t pull off their best performance coming 7th out of 8, however they still managed to look good doing it. Our Mas.C 4+, stroked by our Captain, also didn’t quite make it coming second to Sudbury R.C. Zoe and Erica had an interesting outing in their WIM3 2-, taking the scenic route along the straight course coming third and outperforming Sons of Thames in a straight final. They however had a great performance in the WIM3 4+ with Linda and Suze, coming second in their first heat and making it through to the semis, where sadly they were beaten into second place by Churchill College and were denied a chance at the final.
Scott also had a brave attempt in the J18 1x, managing to take Cambridge 99, but losing out to Derby RC in his first heat. Cathal fared well by winning his first heat in the J14 1x, beating Rob Roy and Holloway Scullers, but sadly lost out in the final coming 3rd to the host teams.
Success finally for Loughborough with Tom in his Elite single with a 7 second win over Gravesend RC, and Emily and Matilda had an amusing row in a straight final in their WJ14 2x, chatting with the spectators all the way down the course winning in their typical exuberant style beating Birmingham RC by a large margin.
