It was an early start for Loughborough with a record number of entries, 12 crews in total braving the grey somewhat breezy conditions at Boston Head Race. The crews rowed the 3000m downstream course with tailwind and tidal flow creating different conditions to what our crews are used to, but many achieved promising times.

The winners for Loughborough, were the Ladies Double consisting of Nicola Cheesman at bow (steering) and Julie Paillin at stroke. The crew rated an average rating of 26 strokes per minute and performed consistently the whole course which had a bend on the start, a long straight and then a slight kick to the left near the end of the course. The ladies set off second and quickly gained on the crew in front of them and won the Intermediate Three category by eight seconds with a time of 13.09. They beat 4 other crews including Trentham Boat Club, Welbeck Defence College, Newark/Lincoln Composite crew, Newark Rowing Club and Peterborough City.

Coach Neil Martin is also very pleased with the girls from Welbeck Defence College coming third as it was their first race together; Welbeck train out of Loughborough Boat Club on the River Soar.
