Two of our youngest juniors were the sole competitors for Loughborough Boat Club at the Peterborough Junior Championships at the weekend which is on a 1000m multi-lane course.

Isabelle Senior representing the club in her single at WJ13 battled competitors from Boston RC, Ross RC and Licensed Victualler’s School Ascot BC in a thrilling and close straight final to take the gold medal beating Ross into silver position by four and a half seconds.

Alex Henry with fourteen competitors in his class at J13 had to fight it out over three heats. Having achieved second place in his first heat against the winner from Rob Roy BC and third and fourth place Peterborough City RC and Boston RC, he secured a position in the following round. Racing Worcester RC, and two competitors from Lvs Ascot Boat Club, Alex won by a large margin of twenty seven seconds. This took him into the final against Lvs Ascot BC, Rob Roy and Boston RC. Determined to win and knowing that it would be a very close final, Alex fought through and took the gold medal by four seconds. When asked how he felt the race went, Alex replied “It came down to whoever wanted it the most” and judging by the exhaustion of the juniors, they all wanted it pretty badly.

In a thrilling conclusion to the day, the two golds brought Loughborough Boat Club into fourth position out of twenty-five clubs from around the country in the Victor Ludorum. We are immensely proud of the juniors’ achievement which not only reflects the quality of coaching that they have received but also their self determination to succeed.
